The champions of the grill

Many people claim to be a braai expert but Treasure Mahlangu can say that with a trophy to prove it. He won the international best griller award in December 2016 and is now a manger at Nando’s Klipfontein. He is a lesson in determination and we can all take a page out of Treasure’s book.

He said that he first entered the competition two years ago but got knocked out in the first round. Determined not to let that get him down he practiced and honed his grilling skills throughout 2015 to enter again in 2016.

“Out of 27 people who went to the national finals only three qualified to go to Mayalsia,” he explained.

Not only was he one of South Africa’s best grillers he proved to be the best in the world when he attended the international competition with his colleagues in Malaysia.

He said it was an amazing experience and he met many new people not only learning a lot about grilling but also learning about himself. For him it was a once in a lifetime chance. At the young age of 24 this man has a lot of potential. As a manager now he hopes to send and train some of the newer grillers to follow in his footsteps in the competition next year and as he said in his own words, “make the impossible possible.” His nickname in Zulu means “small” but when he stands in front of that grill he becomes a giant.

“I would like to thank all the managers who supported me through this and believed in me as well as my colleagues and my family for all their support.”
