Hijackers don’t take festive breaks

Two hijackings occurred both on the outskirts of eMalahleni.

On December 30 Mr Reinnard Mtsweni was driving along the Verena Road towards Pine Ridge when he was hijacked. At about 21:35 Mtsweni approached the stop street when a Volkswagen Golf 7 bumped into his car.

He stopped his vehicle and got out to inspect the damages to his car when two men approached him, one of the men, armed with a firearm told him to get back into his car, the suspect then got in with him.

They drove further down the road towards Verena when they dropped him off next to the road and drove off in his vehicle.

“I wasn’t injured,” said Mtsweni who didn’t comment further.

In another incident on January 2, Mr Victor Thabethe was driving along the Bethal Road when he was stopped by a Volkswagen Golf 7. The driver of the car claimed to be looking for directions to Ogies.

While Thabethe was explaining the directions another man approached from the side and pointed a firearm at him, his car keys were taken. As the hijackers were forcing him into the back seat of his car he managed to escape and sought help from a nearby shop.

The hijackers got away with his Volkswagen Polo 6, they also took his cellular phones, personal documentation and house keys.
