Off duty cop arrests thief

Being off duty does not mean not doing your job.

Sgt Dumisane Masilela deserves a round of applause after he arrested a suspected thief and that while he was supposed to be relaxing on his day off.

Sgt Masilela’s sixth sense proved right when he saw a man carrying a large item wrapped in a white cloth on September 27.

The man was just about to cross Delville Street when Sgt Masilela, driving in his private vehicle, called the man and asked about the item he was carrying.

The 20-year old man, unaware that he was talking to a policeman told Sgt Masilela it was a plasma television. Sgt Masilela just knew that the television was stolen and arrested the man who spilled all the beans.
He admitted stealing the television and a hi-fi from a house in Reyno Ridge.

The man told Sgt Masilela that he sold the hi-fi to someone in Springvalley, where he also lives.
The policeman took it one step further and went to the house the suspect pointed out and recovered the hi-fi.
The suspected thief was arrested for housebreaking and possession of stolen property. The suspect appeared in court on September 28 and the case was postponed until October 5. The suspect remained in custody.
