17 days before electricity interruption

Residents in Emalahleni are gearing up for the bulk electricity interruptions imposed by Eskom.

The electricity giant is flicking the switch on November 20. Eskom plans to interrupt electricity from Mondays to Fridays for eight hours a day. And on weekends consumers will have no electricity for six hours a day.

The Save Emalahleni campaign initiated by local attorney, Mr Johan Coetzee has seen approximately 4 000 members of the community signing an online petition.

Coetzee delivered a letter of demand on the Provincial and National Executives wherein the demands for intervention into the municipality’s affairs were highlighted. Therein Coetzee asked that the two entities intervene before October 31.

“As expected we received no response from the Provincial or National Executives,” Coetzee said.

He is now taking it a step further and is busy preparing a High Court application to compel the Provincial and National Executives to intervene into the affairs of the Municipality. This application will be served on them before November 9.
