The stench of the sewerage can be smelled from miles away. That is how bad it is. The houses towards the end of Harlekyn Street, Reyno Ridge have been having this problem for about a month now.
The sewer is situated inside high walls at Harlekyn Street, Reyno Ridge.
Occupants of the house that are close to the sewer are the ones affected the most. The sewer is situated inside high walls.

“We have tried everything, it is time for the municipality to intervene,” said the concerned resident.
This house is usually faced with sewerage problems.
The neighbour’s sewerage flows into their house and as a result, a hole in the wall was created for the water to flow out of the yard.</em
Besides the sewer outside, the house once had a blocked pipe which led to the sewer spilling all over the yard. This happened three months ago. Another problem is that there is sewerage coming from their neighbour’s yard which led to the couple having to make a hole in their wall that will allow the outflow of sewerage. Evidence of the story relayed can be seen by the white marks that are still drawn on the pavement.

“I cannot say that the sewer now is better, but before it was really embarrassing as it was inside our yard. As a result we could not do anything, there was sewerage almost everywhere. It got so bad that we had to be indoors almost all the time,” said the resident.
Her main and biggest concern is the health implications this issue might cause in future.
“We cannot live in such a state,” the resident emphasised.
On Monday, October 30 the municipality’s spokesperson Mr Kingdom Mabuza said officials were on the scene attending to the neighbour’s sewer problem.

“We hope that in no time the problem will be sorted,” read an email from Mabuza.
When WITBANK NEWS called for an update on Tuesday morning October 31, the couple woke up to a disturbing situation. It seemed the situation started all over again. Sewerage was flowing at their doorstep.
“We are now back to square one, to me it seems the situation has worsened. We honestly do not know what to do anymore,” said the resident with concern.
Before 12:00 on Tuesday Mabuza said officials were on scene and the matter will be sorted out before the end of the day if everything goes as planned.
