Thieves cripple electricity supply

The vandalism inside Market Substation is sabotage according to the Emalahleni Local Municipality.

“It is sabotage; they want to derail our ability to provide power. It could be political. The aim is to make the municipality appear to be failing to provide services,” Mr Kingdom Mabuza, municipal spokesperson commented after the vandalism on December 9.

Market Substation was vandalised on December 9.

R10-million worth of damage was left behind when thieves stole cables and copper bus bars.

This act left Thushanang, Thala, Schoongezicht, Leyland industrial area and the central business district without electricity.

Not even a day later there was no electricity in Ogies after 300 metres of bundle conductor was stolen.
