You never know the worth of water until the well runs dry

The municipality has still not responded on the water issue in Jackaroo Park, Clear Water Estate and Blancheville.

Residents took drastic steps and closed the R555 at Jackaroo Park on March 27 out of frustration of not having water for three weeks.

The community took to the three-way stop and blocked the crossing with branches and tyres and set it alight after their desperate pleas for water were not heard.

Water, water, water everywhere

After an address by ward councillor Roy Cronje from the Democratic Alliance the group made their way to the municipal building where a selected group of five delegates had a one on one with the acting municipal manager, Mr Sizwe Mayisela.

“The municipality paved a clear way of what is happening on the water issue. That evening we had water,” Cronje said.

According to Cronje there are two main water pipes feeding Jackaroo Park and Clear Water Estate. The first is an old pipe that bursts every other weekend. The other is a pipe running along Libertas Street. This pipe however is leaking water everywhere.

Police clear the debris on the R555 to open the road for motorists on March 27.

Water leaks are becoming a bigger cause for concern with the municipality desperately trying to conserve more water, while trying to decrease the amount of clean water that is being wasted through burst water pipes.
