Home Affairs letting the community down

Residents from eMalahleni have been patiently waiting for Home Affairs to open their doors, sadly this didn’t happen.

It was brought to the attention of the WITBANK NEWS by an anonymous source that eMalahleni Home Affairs allegedly aren’t helping customers unless a bribe is paid.

“We have waited for three weeks now, and still we have not been helped.”

Complaints came streaming in from a number of unhappy residents.

“They are busy chatting while we must wait, the service is very poor,” said another frustrated resident.

It is alleged that the Home Affairs staff are on some sort of strike refusing to help the people. They are only opening at 09:00 and then they close before 16:00.

“We have even heard rumours that some people get helped if they pay a bribe,” stated the anonymous source.

According to our source the only people that may collect their passports are those who return the favour by paying a bribe.
Frustration rages among the unhappy residents as they stand in queues outside the Home Affairs office.

WITBANK NEWS has reached out to Home Affairs numerous times to get information regarding this problem but no response has yet been received.

We asked some people standing outside this question:

It is clear that you are all very frustrated standing here. What do you think about the service being delivered by eMalahleni Home Affairs? Do you think it is fair that they treat the residents of eMalahleni this way?

Phumla Mandi, “The service is poor, we are about to loose our jobs because we can’t get our smart cards. We can’t just take of from work every single day. We have been standing here from early in the morning for weeks now it looks like they are always on lunch.”

Grace Mogoanena, “Bad service and they do take some bribes they don’t even help the elderly there is an old woman here being treated without any respect. It is unfair that we must come wait here every single day and still we don’t get helped.”

Staphanus Janse van Rensburg, “All I can say is, pathetic. I need my new ID so that I can collect my pension money. I’ve been going to bed hungry for days now because I cannot get my ID. It is like they don’t care about the rest of us. It is pathetic!”
