Check your speed limit in OR Tambo

The crosses alongside OR Tambo Street are a silent reminder of the many lives that were lost on the road dubbed ‘road of death’.

For years the public tried to get the municipality to take action and make the stretch of road safer.

Some suggested traffic lights; others stop streets and speed humps.

But because OR Tambo Street is a primary road leading out of eMalahleni, many of these ideas can not be implemented. Taking the bends into consideration, traffic lights and strop streets would create more accidents.

“It is important to know that the speed limit on OR Tambo Street is 70km/h,” said Democratic Alliance ward councillor, Ms Marianne Venter.

Motorists can be seen driving much slower after fine infringements were issued for speeding this past few weeks.
