An alleged bogus doctor has appeared before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court earlier this week.
The 38-year old woman was arrested on Tuesday, September 11 and appeared in court the following day.
She was arrested at a medical facility where she was found practicing.
A team comprising the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, Witbank SAPS and Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) officials swooped on the premises following up on allegations regarding doctors practicing without valid credentials.
When the woman was asked for her practising card she was allegedly found wanting. Her details were also apparently missing from the HPCSA registers.
She was then arrested on the spot and charged for fraud and contravening section 17(1) of the Health Professional Act 56/1974.
A batch of files was seized for further analysis to assist ongoing investigation.
The case has been postponed to October 12 pending further investigation. She was granted R1000 bail.
