Fire fighters celebrated

International Fire Fighter day was celebrated in eMalahleni, when Langamed Emergency Management staff with eMalahleni Emergency Services celebrated together by sounding their sirens for 30 seconds. This took place on May 4 at the fire brigade.

The role of a fire fighter, be it urban, rural, natural environment, volunteer, career, industrial, defence force, aviation, motor sport, or other is one of dedication, commitment and sacrifice. No matter from which part of the world we come from, what uniform we wear or what language we speak, we in the fire services have one common goal and that is to fight fires that are out of control.

Fire fighters dedicate their lives to saving other people’s lives and the protection of property.
Fire fighting is inherently one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. The hazards and risks associated with fire fighting are countless.

Langamed Emergency Management, together with the fire brigade, sounded sirens at the fire brigade to celebrate International Fire Fighter Day on Thursday, May4.

Many fire fighters pay the ultimate price and that is the sacrifice of their own life to save lives of other people and protection of their properties.

We have seen this year with the floods that we experienced in Mpumalanga, where a fire fighter was swept away by the raging waters when he tried to save a person that was stuck in a taxi.

International Fire Fighters Day is observed each year on May 4. On this day we honour the sacrifices that fire fighters have made to ensure that communities are safe. We also remember the fire fighters that lost their lives during their line of duty.

It is also a day when current and past fire fighters can be thanked for their contributions.
