Johan is on his way to Argentina

Johan Wilsenach tried to contain his excitement but his face had happiness written all over it.

The 16-year-old received his Protea Colours in Archery to represent South Africa at the 2017 World Archery Youth Championships.

Johan Wilsenach received his national Colours in Archery and will represent South Africa in Argentina.

The contest will take place in Rosario, Argentina from October 2 to 8. Three teams are going there to compete including his. Johan will compete with his group and as an individual.

The Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog learner sharpens his skill with the help of his father who assists him practice. His ultimate coach is based in Pretoria.

Johan’s cupboards are filled with awards such as: Winning gold at the South African Field Archery Championships, held in March at Hartebeespoort. He was awarded his National Colours for Field Archery.

Johan also competed in the South African National Indoor Archery Championships (SASCOC) in October 2016. He won gold in the Junior Male Freestyle Recurve Discipline (Boys u/15).

“It is vey hard to get Protea colours as it requires a lot of hard work and dedication. I am glad I got the colours,” said Johan.

The sports man prepares himself for competitions by watching videos on You Tube of Koreans shooting. Johan admires the way Koreans compete at the Olympics level and are good in this sport.

He strongly believes in the acronym Together Everyone Achieves More (TEAM) as even though he would love to come out first, he wants his team to win too.

“I am hoping for the best,” concluded Johan.
