Two suspects flee the scene after failed CIT heist

Suspects thought the cash-in-transit robbery would be a walk in the park but the G4S driver had something else planned.

Police are now looking for suspects in connection with an attempted cash-in-transit heist. The incident took place at Engen Broadway situated in Diederich Street on Wednesday, August 30 at approximately 07:15.

It is alleged that four suspects were driving in a silver grey Volkswagen Polo.

Two suspects got out of the vehicle and waited next to the G4S van. When the security guard came out of the garage office, the two suspects attacked the G4S officer. The security guards gun was taken and the suspects took the money case.

The G4S driver saw what was happening and he opened fire.
In the process, one of the suspects sustained a gunshot wound. He was shot in the leg.

“The robbers took the cash carrying device as well as the security officer’s firearm. As the robbers ran towards their getaway vehicle, the G4S driver opened fire and the robbers dropped the cash carrying device and fled the scene. All of the money was recovered,” continued the press release from G4S.

Sgt Gerald Sedibe (Media Liaison from the Provincial Commissioner) said police have launched a manhunt for suspects involved in the incident. Community members are encouraged to come forward with any details that will assist with the investigation.
